Rebecca and Chris attended the first Scottish Biological Mass Spectrometry Meeting (SBMSM) which was held at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

The SBMSM has been created to develop a network of all the preeminent Mass Spec research currently being conducted in Scotland and to promote excellence and cultivate experience. Although there is a wealth of expertise and instrumentation throughout Scotland, there is no dedicated Scottish network and meetings to share knowledge and an arena to create new friends, colleagues and build collaborations.

The inaugural meeting was organised by Dr Emma Carrick (University of Glasgow) and Dr Glenn Masson (University of Dundee).

Rebecca chaired the “Proteomic Approaches” session, introducing the three interesting speakers.

Rebecca gave a presentation on Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry Insights into Dynamic Protein Complexes and Conformation.

The science was fascinating to learn about proteomic approaches, metabolomics, structural mass spectrometry, biomarkers, the biology that is controlled by the proteins, the available university facilities and clinical trial data that we study inside the mass spectrometer.

The SBMSM will be a yearly networking event that the Beveridge group looks forward to supporting and networking with moving forward.
