Science isn’t just about research, it is also about getting the community involved and excited to hear about the fun things science is all about! This month Nicole and Cindy engaged in 2 different outreach activities targeted at getting school children excited about science.
Cindy tagged along with the SMaRDT group at Strathclyde to go to the Robert Burns Academy in Cumnock to host a workshop all about supercapacitors and turning waste into riches through pyrolysis as part of their STEM fair!
Nicole and Cindy then went on to help host a booth at the Riverside Museum as part of the Glasgow Science Festival. Along with Aaron Lau and other volunteers, the day ran very smoothly with a lot of engagement from everyone who attended. They taught people about acid and base reactions along with the structure of proteins using the fantastic art of baking!
Overall, Cindy and Nicole enjoyed their experience doing something beyond the typical lab/office work and hope to get involved in engaging the community even more!
